About SURGIL

SURGIL is an acronym for Surgical Interest Group Lagos. It was established in November 2020 by a cohort of medical students to foster awareness and enthusiasm for the surgical field as a specialized discipline. We are domiciled within the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, however, we have active members spread across many medical schools in Nigeria. Our main focus demographic consists of medical students and early-career doctors. We thrive on engaging and promoting activities that will stimulate and nurture interest, and create a good platform to pursue a successful career as a surgeon. Some of these initiatives include but are not limited to, the following: the bimonthly webinar series titled “Carving Career Pathways in Surgery” Surgical Innovation series, Mentorship programs, Global Surgery Catalyst Program, Journal Club meetings, Basic Surgical Skills training, Research collaborations and many more. We hope that with these activities and others we have lined up, we will be able to create a new generation of medical students and young doctors who will see Surgery as a very attractive specialty and will be willing to pursue future careers in the different surgical sub-specialties.
