In a historic milestone, SURGIL organized the inaugural SURGIL Conference 2024 on July 10, 2024. This event was not only the maiden edition of the conference but also marked a significant achievement as the first student-led surgical conference in Sub-Saharan Africa. The conference was held at the prestigious Old Great Hall, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi-Araba, Lagos, a venue that has long been synonymous with academic excellence and the nurturing of future medical professionals. Themed “From Classroom to OR: Nurturing the Next Generation of Surgeons,” the SURGIL Conference 2024 was meticulously designed to provide a comprehensive platform for medical students with a budding interest in surgery. The conference aimed to bridge the daunting gap between theoretical knowledge gained in classrooms and the practical skills required in surgical practice.
